Self-mastery is a necessity and not a luxury. It used to be seen as a luxury because usually, those who are already well-to-do (C Suites) are willing to pay the price of having a fulfilling and meaningful life. Benefits from the ongoing practice of self-mastery are priceless. Today, with the rise of mental health issues, most people in the world are becoming aware of the importance of self-love and self-care and all these require self-mastery.
Imagine living a life where you are not constantly at the mercy of your raving thoughts and emotions.
Imagine a life where you are not affected by people’s opinions.
Imagine a life where you get to achieve a bulk of meaningful goals in life.
Imagine a life being connected with people even when you disagree or dislike them.
It is worth it!
Not everyone has the grit and discipline to practice self-mastery right away, me neither. Not many people wake up thinking about “how can I make myself better each day?” or “what do I need to improve on?” by default, we may just want to get back to sleep.
Self-mastery requires a change of mindset and habits and consistent practice and having a clear WHY will make one ready to fully dive into the world of self-improvement and personal growth. In other words, they are willing to look in the mirror and confront their fears and barriers without the need to blame others or circumstances. They are willing to take full responsibility to be in charge of their lives and exercise their rights to free will, and autonomy and live a life with purpose.
You don’t have to do it all alone especially when you are very new to self-mastery, this is when a life coach comes in.
A life coach is like a lighthouse that helps you see where you need to go, which barriers to avoid, and to reach your destination within the shortest amount of time possible. You will need to be the one to take the step forward after seeing a clear path for yourself. If you see that the root cause of your problems is, a lack of communication, you will need to find out what is stopping you from communicating. When you see your barriers, that’s when you can rid the barrier and make that action forward to begin communicating. You need to take that step to see results.
It is the same when you engage a fitness coach, you cannot expect the fitness coach to do all the work to give you muscles. You need to do the work to see results. Sometimes, you may choose to work out on your own and rely on yourself to work out and save a huge amount of money. Chances of failing are high without self-mastery and without the proper know-how of doing a workout that would target the right areas of your body. I know I won’t get optimal results without a fitness coach and I would be willing to work with one when I want to ensure that my body continues to stay fit and healthy as I grow older.
In life, many would prefer to self-learn and be a self-taught life expert. Some succeed and many barely make it near what it means to have self-mastery especially in mastering our thoughts and emotions. Reading books and seeing ‘Coach Google’ wouldn’t give you anywhere close to the experience of self-mastery because practicing self-mastery requires being uncomfortable and most would prefer to be in a convenient place and comfortable space. Just as when you do a workout for the first time with a fitness coach, you won’t be given the chance to rest as much as you wanted to as you would when you are doing the workout alone.
To expand yourself and your life, you are expected to stretch yourself and be in the discomfort zone.
Take, for example, myself, I know many find it hard to believe that it is uncomfortable for me to be around groups of people and yet my line of work revolves around working with groups of people sometimes hundreds or thousands in a room. Yes, the discomfort never goes away since I was a child. If I do not practice self-mastery, I won’t be able to fulfill my goal of being an inspiration to others and supporting others in what I am passionate about, I would succumb to my fears and hide. I would stay home and be very comfortable, safe, and sound with my family that I love to bits. It is still an option for me and yet I choose to be uncomfortable doing what I do and to fulfill what I declare as my purpose in life, to contribute to others through self-mastery, why? It makes life worthwhile for me and to act despite fear is living life since most are avoiding fear and cannot live in peace with all sorts of human emotions.
I am not in any way minimizing the importance of being a stay home mum, I see stay home mums as wonderful and one must be proud of being one when you choose it even when it’s uncomfortable too, and yet, some may feel ‘forced’ and feel that they do not have a say in the matter, that’s when self-mastery is a necessity in fulfilling our roles in life. I am simply sharing my goals and how I am OK with my fears and discomforts to look at what is important to me. If being a stay-home mum is your choice, chin up and be proud of it.
Same with one’s desire to have financial freedom or to stay healthy, to reach these goals can be unfamiliar and uncomfortable yet, it is worth it!
Just as in fitness, not all clients are committed to their results, some would give up halfway when they experience discomfort such as soreness, slight injury, and so on.
Practicing self-mastery requires discipline and the ability to work with a dedicated coach and you just want the results that you said you want. Some merely throw in a list of empty wishes that don’t mean much to them or some are subconsciously thinking that their wishes are theirs when actually, they don’t feel connected to what they want. It is very important to get clear about what is it that you want in your life. You can also navigate this question with a life coach.
Do you have what it takes to practice self-mastery? Yes, you do! Work with a life coach and be amazed by the YOU that’s been hiding inside the fears, comfort, ego, and all the barriers that are stopping you from LIVING.
